Randomly surfing the net I found a work of art that reminded me of my childhood.
I felt like Proust and his Petite Madeleine.

That drawing is Amedeo Modigliani's "Gypsy Woman with Baby".

This paint was located in my old house, on the stairs.
That stairs led to the part where we lived, on the 1st floor,
downstairs it was used as lumber room and as wine-cellar.
That floor was always cold and it wasn't cosy at all.

I had to go there when my parents asked me to go and catch some wine.

I was a baby and I can clearly remember how I was uneasy down there.
I used to quickly pick a bottle and started running to the 1st floor,
The paint was located just after the first flight of stairs:
the gipsy woman was there, severely looking at me.

I wasn't even able to realize it was a baby she's holding in her arms.

Then, with the passing of the time, I started to appreciate Modigliani.
I have been also charmed by his personal life.

And now, I am totally fond of him.

BANANA WORM BREAD

Ingredients:

1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
2 bananas, mashed
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 eggs
1/4 cup dry-roasted army worms
Directions:

Mix together all ingredients. Bake in greased loaf pan at 350 degrees for about 1 hour.

ROOTWORM BEETLE DIP

Ingredients:

2 cup low-fat cottage cheese
1 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons skim milk
1/2 cup reduced calorie mayonnaise
1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon onion, chopped
1 1/2 tsp. dill weed
1 1/2 tsp. Beau Monde
1 cup dry-roasted rootworm beetles
Directions:

Blend first 3 ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and chill.

CHOCOLATE CHIRPIE CHIP COOKIES

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 12-ounce chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup dry-roasted crickets
Directions:

Preheat oven to 375. In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In large bowl, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla; beat until creamy. Beat in eggs. Gradually add flour mixture and insects, mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded measuring teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

CEACKERS AND CHEESE DIP WITH CANDIED CRICKETS

Ingredients:

8 oz. cream cheese
4 oz. shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp. Worchestershire sauce
2 tsp. chopped onions
1 tsp. chopped green pepper
2 tsp Miracle Whip®
candied crickets
Directions:

Soften cream cheese. Introduce remaining ingredients.
Spread mixture on cracker and top with a candied cricket.

MEALWORM FRIED RICE

Ingredients:

1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. oil
3/4 c. water
1/4 c. chopped onions
4 tsp. soy sauce
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 c. minute rice
1 c. cooked mealworms
Directions:

Scramble egg in a saucepan, stirring to break egg into pieces.
Add water, soy sauce, garlic and onions. Bring to a boil.

Stir in rice. Cover; remove from heat and let stand five minutes.

Ingredients:

baker's chocolate
candied crickets
Directions:

Melt baker's chocolate in double boiler.
Fill molds halfway with chocolate, add grasshoppers, fill rest of the way.

Bus #43 must have a magical power.
The ride back home from work is much more exciting than 10 hours in Westwood's press office.

Today, while I was sitting on the bus, I heard a noise.
I gave a glance at that point and saw a man lying on the floor.
Suddently I run there and with other people helped the man to stand up.

Guess what? The old man looked like Hans Moleman.

I couldn't stop laughting.

World's Largest Spoon

Only a few people know about my passion for spoons. The bigger they are, the better is. I'm costantly looking for bigger spoons, but as soon as i find one, it's never enough, i want it bigger and bigger. Finally i found the right spoon for me. I't's in minneapolis. I hate the cherry though.
Please somebody make a huge Tiramisù!!

I've always loved cartoons, especially European/American ones, despite the Mangas.
Mangas are usually sexy, think about "Cat's Eye", the girls in "Dragon Ball", etc, and may have some explicit sexual images,
for instance think about Ranma.

Thanks to my friend Davide I discovered the area of what I would call the PORNTOONS or the SEXTOONS.
They rapresent "regular cartoons" in sexual scenes.

I find them rather disturbing and horrendus.

This is our decision, to live fast and die young.

It's so strange to think people are scared of flowers, of property, of wooded areas, of belly buttons,of shellfish, etc.

Sophophobia- Fear of learning.

To be honest, while reading the list I recognised I have some of these diseases.

Symmetrophobia- Fear of symmetry.

Kubrick Shooting 4 LOOK

A few people know that Stanley Kubrick started his career as photographer before becoming a film-maker.

Today I've been to his exposition in Milan, where his pictures are shown in preview.
The exhibition is quite well organized; it takes place at Palazzo della Ragione, a beautiful palace in the city centre.
As he was working for the magazine Look, all the shootings are divided into theme areas.

The ones I preferred are about: the circus, and a poor boy called Mickey.

Mickey is a 12 y.o. shoeshine, living in the early 50's, working after school for a few money.
He is handsome and got lots of interests and duties as looking after his 5 younger brothers and taking care of the pigeons.
He reminded me of Oliver Twist.

The serie about the Circus is amazing.
It mainly shows circus workers during their trainings or during their spare time.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a wonderful image with a leopard puppy.

But who cares?

She's one of the best writers i've ever read.
Ok, she might not be Dostoevskij, Dickens or Jean-Paul Sartre, but she's a genius.

The first J.T. LeRoy's book I read it was "Harold's End".
I found this book very striking.
It's a sick story about an outsider taking care of an escargot.
Well, in reality the whole plot is an exposé of how people
pretend to help the ones in need just for their self-interest.

The second book I read was "The heart is deceitful above all things".
No, I haven't seen the movie, and got no intentions to do so.
This story is totally wicked. It's about Jeremiah, a 5 years old baby,
which travels around America from trucker to trucker with his mother,
an alcoholic and drug-addict sad bitch.
Several "hot" themes are developed: child sexual abuse, shoplifting, physical abuse, sodomy, drug abuse, violence, prostitution, etc.
I'm pretty sure that if you'll have the courage to read this novel,
you will devour it in a few hours.

Then, finally, I read Sarah.
I found it less strong than the others.
Maybe less commercial but also less convincing.
Sarah is the development of the story, when Jeremiah becomes a teenager.

I would advise to read J.T. LeRoy's biography (real name Laura Albert).
Creating Jeremiah Terminator she has designed a brand new writer, far away from her status of mother,
but quite close in some parts with her past life.

I would love to read Labour, her latest book, published 3 years ago,
but still not available in Italy.

Thanks to my friend Angelos Frenztos I've been invited to take part into a weird project by Absolut Vodka.

If you log in you are involved into a cinema presentation and then you can watch a short movie by Spike Jonze.
(Spike Jonze is what I would call the right man in the right place, always. the no-failure-man)

The story is about a sad robot finding love.
I couldn't watch it till the end, to be honest, because I feel weak lately, and then overexposed to emotions.

I definitely had the sensation that it would have ended tragically.

The Kraken, a giant squid, is one of the most fascinating sea creatures.
In 1752, the Bishop of Bergen, Erik Ludvigsen Pontoppidan, wrote his Natural History of Norway and described the Kraken as a "floating island" one and a half miles across.
According to stories, this cephalopod could reach as high as the top of a sailing ship's main mast with its arms deployed, so when the Kraken attacked a ship, it wrapped its arms around the hull and capsize it.
The crew would drown or be eaten by the monster. Kraken were mostly noticed in the seas of Scandinavia. Fishermen said that huge amounts of fishs gravitate around Kraken and the boat that succeeds to fish around the monster without awaking it will take more than possible to carry aboard.

Another charming creature is Medusa, in Greek mythology a gorgon, a female monster, daughter of Phorcys and Ceto.
The three Gorgon sisters were daughters of ancient Sea Gods, Ceto and Phorcys. Two, Stheno and Eluryah were immortal, but the third, Medusa was not. She had been a female of absolute beauty, mostly her long, silky hair. She bragged at being more beautiful than the Goddess Athena, and one day, while in her temple, she was ravished by the Sea God Neptune. Athena was outraged by this and turned Medusa into the Gorgon she became famous for being. She turned her beautiful hair into snakes and let it be that she could no longer see the handsome men who came to court her, as they would instantly be turned to stone if they looked into her eyes

It sounds like the unlucky destiny of a sad princess.

vomiting phobia

Taking the public means is always a trouble, at least here, in Milan.

And it gets worst if you suffer from panic attacks and that shitty stuff.

As I do.

Then, when I move around in the city I often wonder what would happen if I feel bad on the tram, feeling close to faint or to vomit.

Well, today I got on the 43, the bus that takes me home from work. I was wearing my Ipod as usual with very high volume and I was sitting pretty close to the driver.

A woman got near to the coach and started talking with him, then

(I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHY) I slowed my music down.

Guess what I heard?

The lady was telling him that somebody had thrown up on the bus.

After several minutes where I was filled with dismay I realized that it can happen to feel sick on the bus.

And paradoxically I felt incredibly at ease.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD Get a Life! Party

Wednesday, 14th April, Vivienne Westwood (where I work at), organized the Get a Life! Party, exclusively for the Design Week in Milan.

There, we have desplaied some products from Vivienne Westwood in collaboration with design brands, such as the SIGG reusable bottle, the Rug Company carpets which covered the building's windows and the Cole&Son wallpapers.

The Vivienne Westwood shop was incredibly crowded, thanks to a selection of the most important djs on the Milan's scenario, and to Skyy Vodka and Red Bull, which offered refreshments during the night.

Molti di voi penseranno che dovrei presentarmi, ebbene si, forse dovrei, ma non lo farò. Le presentazioni sono sempre poco convincenti e annoiano il presentato quanto il presentatore e il presentiforme presentabile. Non amo ripetermi. Pertanto eviterò di apparire presenziante, non che la cosa vi prema particolarmente, starete commentando, e vi capisco.

Il secondo punto su cui mi tocca subito contraddirvi è il seguente: no, non credo voi dobbiate spendere il vostro tempo leggendo ciò che scrivo, anzi, sostengo che possiate impiegare il vostro tempo in attività decisamente più utili, quindi non sprecherò delle righe per motivarvi, tentando di convincervi a farlo.

Ora ve ne starete andando, maledicendomi.

Come darvi torto.

Tuttavia, vi consiglio di seguire le gesta del mio esimio collega Mauri Imi, corrispondente dalla città di Albione, forse lui riuscirà ad attrarre la vostra attenzione.

So last saturday i spent a lovely day in Brighton with my friend Patricija, and i found this AMAZING book/magazine in a huge vintage-antiques shop. I couldn't resist, i had to buy it as a present for my friend Lottie. I hope she will enjoy it!
